On Tuesday, April 19,  at 11:11 p.m., Atlantic City police responded to the 1600 block of Wabash Avenue in reference to a ShotSpotter alert.

Officer Joseph Kelly Jr. arrived in the area and observed two individuals, Quamir Beltran and Oquan Thomas, rapidly walking westbound from the immediate vicinity of the ShotSpotter notification, police said.

Upon attempting to stop Beltran and Thomas, they allegedly began to walk away from Officer Kelly Jr. and Officer Nicholas Grasso, who had arrived as backup.

Beltran and Thomas refused the officers’ orders to stop and entered a convenience store in the 600 block of North New York Avenue, police said. Inside the store, contact was made with Beltran and Thomas.

Beltran, 18, was ultimately found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and a small plastic bag containing suspected cocaine, police said.

Thomas, 18, was taken into custody for obstruction. He was issued a summons pending a future court date.

Beltran was charged with obstruction, and drug and weapons offenses including possession of a ghost gun and large-capacity magazine, police said. He was taken into custody without incident and was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
